Weight Management Psychotherapy
What Are You Really Hungry For?
Why is Weight Management so Hard?
It’s no secret that managing our weight is a very difficult and complex challenge in today’s world. There are myriad factors that can affect how, what, where, when and why we eat as we do, including some that have yet to be discovered. Consider that in North America, we are told a high weight is bad yet we are inundated by food availability and food marketing 24/7.
From the moment we are born, we have to eat to survive. This fact is with us from beginning to end and there is no way around it. It’s no wonder weight, food and body issues can drive us bonkers. Or make us want to plant our face in a cake. (Especially if you’re a baker, like me!)

Psychotherapy is the Missing Link for Weight Managment
So many of us spend an enormous amount of time and energy worrying about our weight and how to fix it. But if you’re only focusing on food and movement then you’re missing the key link…or should I say, ingredient!
Tackling weight management without dealing with your beliefs, thoughts and emotions is like sitting on a two-legged stool and expecting it to hold you up.
Using the psychology of eating principles, intuitive eating skills, elements of Acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as well as a cooking lesson or two, you’ll be able to approach weight challenges and body acceptance in a very different way.

The Pink Couch Approach
I look at weight management from a whole person, holistic lens. In other words, what else is going on in your life that is affecting your ability to make changes, get healthier and actually enjoy yourself along the way? Yes, I said enjoy yourself!
We start with a comprehensive diet, activity and mindset assessment to pinpoint areas that may be holding you back. Then we meet and create a plan surrounding your top goals that will get you past any roadblocks identified in your comprehensive assessment.
Mindset is the first thing we tackle so that you’re truly ready and willing to overcome the diet and movement challenges that will stand in the way of your success.
Keep in mind that, like anything worth achieving, weight management is not a one and done kind of thing, nor can it be forced into a tight timeframe. Just like the ugly stepsisters trying to squeeze their foot into the glass slipper it’s just not gonna happen.
So one of the first things we learn is to relax, ease into things and listen to what our mind, body and appetite are actually telling us.
It’s not just about the food, it’s about your whole LIFE!
And it’s about getting the support YOU need, not just being sold what someone else thinks you “should” be doing or is telling you what will work because it “worked” for them.

“To change your Body, you must first change your Mind”
— Unknown, but I heartily agree!
